The 156th Annual Emancipation Celebration will be held at the Gallia County Junior Fairgrounds located at 189 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis, Ohio on Saturday, September 21st & Sunday, September 22nd, 2019. The planned event promises excitement and entertainment for all age groups.

The Gallia County Emancipation Celebration Committee is pleased to announce our Sunday, September 22nd Keynote Speaker is Ric Sheffield, Professor of Legal Studies and Sociology at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. This will be on the main stage at 2:00 pm.

History will come alive with the Civil War Re-enactors from the 5th & 12th regiments of the U.S.C.T. who will be encamping at the fairgrounds. Frederick Douglass (portrayed by Michael Crutcher) & Abraham and Mrs. Lincoln (portrayed by John & Marian King) will take the stage on the afternoon of Saturday, September 21st.

Music on Saturday morning will be rendered by the River Valley High School marching band and Jeannie Williams singing the Negro Anthem. Lawrence R. Greene and Company will perform African Drum and Dance Saturday afternoon. Saturday events will also include a Kids Fun Day on the fairgrounds weather permitting.

Our own Andy Gilmore and Minister Marlin Griffin will Emcee Saturday and Sunday’s events. The Sunday sermon will be delivered by Reverend Damion Sneed, Pastor & Director of Education at Greater St. John Baptist Church, Dayton, Ohio. Music will be provided in the morning session by a Combined Churches Choir and in the afternoon session by Ruthie Carter and Women of Praise. Sunday afternoon Keynote speaker will be

We are expecting dignitaries from our local, state and national offices. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend. Both days include food booths, arts & crafts, health fair, birthday chronicles, games for the youth and fun for all in attendance.
