GERALD A. PAYN (Gerry or Jerry) of Wooster, Ohio.

Born in Lodi, Ohio, attended Lodi Public Schools and graduated in 1957. Served in Ohio National Guard 1957 to 1963; 1961 - B.S. - The Ohio State University College of Agriculture; Former dairy farm owner-operator 1961-1968 (active in YFA); Science Teacher & Guidance Counselor 1968-1994; 1973 - M.S. - The University of Akron College of Education - Guidance & Counseling; Employed part time (Town House activities) by Sprenger Retirement Centers (Smithville Western Commons - Wooster); Active member (former Board member) (sings in choir) - Congress Community church; Coordinator - Wayne Co. Civil War Roundtable; Active charter member and officer - Northwestern Ruritan Club; Active Member - Wayne County Retired Teachers Association (officer) & Ohio Retired Teachers Association; Active member – Smithville Community Historical Society; Member of Sons of Union Veterans Given Camp # 51 - Great Grandson of Pvt. William Wallace Baldwin, 157th Reg., Co. G., N.Y. Volunteer Infantry (1838 to 1922), member G.A.R.

2008 - Installed in Northwestern Schools "Community Hall of Honor"
2009 - Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for Wayne County - Area Agency on Aging
2008 - Assisted with Wooster Bicentennial events (chaired the Wooster Chautauqua)

Married to his wife Marilyn for 55 years with three children and six grandchildren. Hobbies - presenting Abraham Lincoln, traveling, being with family, playing tuba and singing.

Beginning 1999, Gerald Payn began as a Abraham Lincoln Presenter (recent years about 75 engagements per year) has visited every place Mr. Lincoln lived during his lifetime plus a number of Civil War Battle sites and other related places. Was inspired to present A. Lincoln by Jim Getty of Gettysburg, PA. Life member of National Association of Lincoln Presenters (one of almost125 members). Is a “full height” Lincoln presenter at 6’4”.
Performs in costume (and whiskers) and presents in first person. Speaks on a large variety of topics - Life of Lincoln (any “chapter”), The Last Few Days in the Life of Lincoln, Highlights of the Civil War, Lincoln and Religion, Lincoln and Law, Lincoln and Leadership, Lincoln and Slavery, Lincoln and Politics, Lincoln’s Education, Lincoln’s Presidency, Preparation for the Presidency, Lincoln at Cooper Union, Lincoln & Agriculture, Lincoln Assassination and Funeral Train, plus others. Attempts to emphasize the "human side" of Abraham Lincoln. His wife, Marilyn Payn, often accompanies him in period dress and can present Mary Todd Lincoln.
